Database-as-a-service: a vote for data democracy

The technology industry has gone to great lengths to provide abstraction layers for every user to store, analyze, access, and retrieve data residing in cloud-based data repositories inside dedicated datacenters. Data democracy challenges the notion that every application requires its own database.
